Starting the Egg Donation Process

If you are considering egg donation, then you may be wondering about the steps involved in the process.

At The Donor Solution, we are here to guide you through each aspect of choosing an egg donor, and what you can expect as you move forward.

We believe the best possible experience starts with informed and educated patients.

Step 1 - Reasons for Seeking an Egg Donor

There are many reasons intended parents may seek an egg donor. Some intended parents might be struggling with infertility, while others may be single parent or LGBT families. These are just a few reasons for considering egg donation. In the case of an infertility diagnosis, patients are tested to determine the cause of infertility. If there are poor quality ovaries or eggs, multiple failed IVF cycles, non-functional reproductive organs, early menopause or a hereditary genetic disorder, egg donation can help intended parents experience the joys of pregnancy.

Step 2 - Choosing the Right Egg Donor Agency

Once you have decided egg donation is an option you would like to move forward with, the next step is finding the right egg donor agency. Choosing an egg donor agency and program requires research. The agency you choose has important implications on the success of your experience. The Donor Solution is FDA and ASRM compliant, donors are personally interviewed and screened with background checks, transcript and SAT/ACT scores checked and AMh fertility testing, where applicable, is completed.  We have an extensive database of donors of vetted donors and our agency is owned and operated by a licensed healthcare professional. Step 3 - The Initial Consultations

Now, that you have chosen an egg donor agency, it's time for an initial consultation with The Donor Solution. During this consultation, we will discuss any donors that you have found through our database. We will provide you detailed information about the donors, photos, and discuss the costs of egg donation.

Step 4 - Synchronizing Cycles

When an egg donor has been selected, our team at The Donor Solution will contact your infertility clinic and physician. During this time, the egg donor will receive specific medical instructions regarding cycling and administering hormone treatments. This will allow for the egg donor and the surrogate to sync cycles for maximal viability of the eggs.

Step 5 - Egg & Sperm Retrieval

Now that the cycles of the donor and recipient are aligned, a minimally invasive egg retrieval procedure is performed to remove the donor’s eggs. That same day the male partner or sperm donor will provide a semen specimen for fertilization.

Step 6 - In Vitro Fertilization

After the eggs and sperm have been retrieved, your reproductive endocrinologist will start the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. IVF is the process of fertilization by manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. When the IVF procedure is successful, the process is combined with a procedure known as embryo transfer, which involves physically placing the embryo in the uterus.

Step 7 - Pregnancy Test

Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is administered. Hopefully, the IVF treatment was a success and you will be expecting a new addition to your family!
